Mr. Hughes' final place of rest is located at Sunset Hill I, A-3, Space 2. Jackie R. Hughes, age 75 of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018.Born in Bryson City, North Carolina on July 30, 1943, he was a son of the late Robert and Violet Mathis Hughes. Mr. Hughes was self-employed in construction and enjoyed trading automobiles and the car hobby in general. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church and loved time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, Karen and Sharon Hughes and brother, Charles Hughes. Surviving are loving wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Jackson Hughes of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrin & Kezia Hughes of Mt. Airy and Donnie & Cassidy Hughes of Demorest; daughter, Dawn Hughes of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Dione & Kevin Garrison of Homer; grandchildren, Ryland Hughes, Breelynn Hughes, Harrison Hughes, and Kendall Garrison; sister and brother-in-law, Pat & Shane Garrett of Demorest. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Wesley Purcell, Rev. Kevin Mathis, and Rev. Lamar Kastner officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 pm on Monday.
