Mr. Durham's final place of rest is located at Garden of Honor, J-14, Space 2. J.D. DURHAM, age 77, Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013. Mr. Durham was born on July 31, 1936, in Homer Georgia. He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Durham was a retired teacher, coach and principal in the Habersham County School System. Survivors include his wife, Lorie Durham, Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Rebekah and Steven Russo, Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-laws, Tim and Candice Hilton, Bethlehem, Ben and Melissa Hilton, Dacula, Dusty and Amanda Durham, Lula; sons, Andy Durham, Alto, Ben Shields, Alto; sisters, Evelyn Mitchell, Anderson, SC, Celeste Wilson, Thomasville, Willene Osborne, Homer, Joyce Barrett, Snellville; brothers, Dwight Durham, Carrollton, Maxwell Durham, Cornelia; fourteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Michael Justus, Mr. Kent Durham, Rev. Tim Hilton and Pastor James Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors, provided by The United States Navy Color Guard, The Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, The Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and The Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The J.D.
