Norris Hinton

Mr. Hinton's final place of rest is located at Sunset Hill III, B-2, Space 4. Norris Hinton, age 98 of Alto, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019. Born in Cherokee, Alabama on August 24, 1920 to the late Oscar and Bertie Molock Hinton. Mr. Hinton retired as a correctional officer with Georgia Industrial Institute now known as Lee Arrendale State Prison after 30 years of service. From 1939-1941, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he played baseball and also was a boxer. He was also a member of the Peace Officer Association of Georgia. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, Braves baseball, gardening and University of Georgia football. Mr. Hinton was of the Holiness faith and attended Alto Congregational Holiness Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Vinnie Sue Palmer Hinton; daughter, Nancy Jo Dalton; grandchildren, Mitchell Dallas Ivie and Michael Lee Ivie, Jr.;11 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his daughters, Ann Shirley and Lib Huffman both of Alto, daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Johnny Gastley of Hiawassee; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are scheduled for 3 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
