Opal Mildred Hammond

Mrs. Hammond's final place of rest is at Sunset Hill II, B-6, Space 3. Opal Mildred "Whitmire" Hammond, age 80, of Clarkesville, GA died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 following a sudden illness. Mrs. Hammond was born in Dawson, GA on January 18, 1927 to the late William McKinley & Lula Caroline Carnes Whitmire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ray Lee Hammond; her brothers: Emmitt Jackson Whitmire, Jerry Eugene Whitmire, and William Mckinley Whitmire; her sisters: Betty Montese Cahill, Edith Lillian McEntyre, Martha Jean Whitmire. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs. Hammond was self employed in retail sales. Survivors include: her children: Donnie Ray Hammond, Cleveland, GA, Brenda Lou Finger, Rome, GA and Larry Kenneth Hammond, Clarkesville, GA; her sisters: Ellen Jaquline Hammond,Clarkesville, GA, Saundra Joy Dixon, Clarkesville, GA, Darline Jill Church, Clarkesville, Barbara Lynn Sims, Clarkesville, GA, Josephine Dorothy Belle Nix, Dawsonville, GA; her brothers Talmadge Dean Whitmire, Mt. Airy, GA, Gerald Douglas Whitmire, Clarkesville, GA; her grandchildren: Alan Finger, Heath Hammond, Denise Loggins, Cindy Hammond, Joshua Hammond, and Jackson Woodward and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 22, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Friday, September 21, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
