Mrs. Dillashaw's final place of rest is located at Garden of Prayer, C-2. Phoebe Cook Dillashaw, age 87 of Cornelia, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017, at her residence. Born in Winder, Georgia on November 18, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Johnnie Lou Thompson Cook. Mrs. Dillashaw worked for Selective Services prior to retiring as an auditor/investigator with the US Department of Education where she served for 35 years. She was an avid sports fan who was an All-State basketball player for Winder High School in the mid-40’s. After graduating high school, she earned an athletic scholarship and played basketball for Piedmont College, where she met her future husband, Wick. Because she was unable to attend church, Mrs. Dillashaw was a devout radio listener of Dr. Bill Coates of First Baptist Church of Gainesville. She also was a strong Republican who enjoyed politics and watching westerns. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dillashaw was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William L. “Wick” Dillashaw, Jr.; brother, Doc Cook; sisters, Edna Hulsey, Maxine Skinner, Ann Mount, Frances Clack, and Johnnie Akins. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & JoAnne Dillashaw and Bob & Elaine Dillashaw all of Cornelia; brothers, Jack Cook and Harry Cook both of Winder; grandchildren, Clay & Bonnie Dillashaw, Chris Dillashaw, Taylor & Kyle London, and Natalie Houston; six great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 3:00 pm Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Dr. Tom Mewborn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
